Don't Cry For Me

It won't be easy, you'll think it strange when I try to explain how I feel. Tango. When has one ever seriously pondered the origin of this dance? When the word is heard, Tango might bring to mind similar scenarios. A woman in high heels, red dress and lipstick, whispering fast latino sweet-nothings into the ear of a dark and mysterious man in a black suit and a rose between his teeth. However, would you believe that tango initially commenced and evolved from the men dancing and practicing with one another? You won't believe me, all you will see is a girl you once knew. Although she's dressed up to the nines at sixes and sevens with you. The truth is, I am in love. Tango was first danced to reflect the profound sense of loss and longing which the people felt so many years ago. Well, I am lost and longing for Tango, so quite obviously we were made for one another. Don't cry for me Argentina. The truth is I never left you. Tango was created by the kinds of people who generally leave no mark on history except by dying in wars - the quite poor, underprivileged and uneducated. Way back in the 1800's, so when my father was a kid, the rich would only mix with the poor for the sake of entertainment. In brothels. It was these brothels, at which the male clients would always quite understandably out number the women, in which there was a lack of entertainment whilst awaiting on prostitutes. This which so cleverly was satisfied by live tango music. It became the opportune moment for men to practice and hone their skills on each other, learn from each other's strong as well as lacking moves. If they were comfortable and satisfactory at performing a provocative dance on one other and by each other's standards, they were set for when a real woman came about. Pretty soon the dance was practiced no longer in brothels, but at arranged times and places. It was then, at these "practica's," that they prepared for those special and highly sought-after moments in which a classy woman would finally be found in his arms. The lengths men went for sex even then... astonishing. All through my wild days. My mad existence. And so, if not a short Argentine girl with a rose between her teeth and a long dark gown, how about a tall Canadian girl. One who speaks just pretty good spanish, and maybe just wears an orange shirt, black skirt and rainbow shoes, hmm? Have I said too much? There's nothing more I can think of to say to you. But all you have to do is look at me to know that every word is true. My father once said to me, 'follow your dreams', or was it your obsession.. The Lovely Miss Argentina.
