Sand Dunes And Jim Morrison

Well once again Merry Christmas and Happy New year everyone! Quite certain I'll never fully recover from these past 3 weeks but I'll give it a go. And so it was. We just left Colombia in search of a Peruvian escapade. A girl and guy from Ozzieland, we had gotten into Lima in time to meet the third and final Ozzie who landed the next day in order to bring our party of people to four. Three Australians, one Canadian and possibly the least amount of sleep I have ever had. And what did your little pondering minds decide to do altogether? Straight into the desert. There is a town in southern Peru the size of half a football field, entitled Huacachina. It is essentially a lake smack dab in the middle of the Peruvian desert; just pops up out of no where. You ride along through endless dunes, massively tall, lifeless, far as the eye can see and what does your eye behold once you have given up all hope of any form of vegetation, life to be found? That's when you see Huacachina. This isolated, tiny body of water surrounded by restaurants and hostels, tall green trees and flowers makes you think you are seeing things. The mirage of relief it is. The only thing missing is Jim Morrison and the rest of The Doors on acid. In the words of an Ozzie, "This is gonna be sick, ay! We're gonna smash it, rock it up, then smash it some more!" Apparently that means we're about to have a blissful Peruvian desert of a good time sandboarding through the dunes. Yup, I think that's what we did. It would have been better with Mr. Morrison himself, I'm sure he was with us in spirit. Yes yes, with us in spirit as we finished a full day boarding, leaping from dune to dune and stopping just in time to watch the sunset. If you think watching the sunset in the desert doesn't make you feel like you're really living, think again. Mr. Morrison, it's quite possibly one of the more impressive, beautifully romantic things you will see for quite some time. I would be happy to share it with you anytime even if you have taken a bit too much smack. A picture of the four of us is in order, as well as myself, the cool Canadian chick about to smash those dunes with, to be honest, my mad snowboarding skills. Cheers, to sharing many good times with Australia. Miss Morrison.
